After the positive reaction to the original 'My Hometown' video, I began to wonder how I could replicate such an atmosphere and show my hometown in a different light. So, I went on a similar journey through St Albans at night.
It was really interesting to see how the whole atmosphere of St Albans changed with only one variable being altered. The darkness of night means we have to provide our own light, something which is perfectly normal and expected these days, but It wasn't always so. I found myself thinking about what it was like to live without electricity, candles or even fire!? Obviously we managed to survive. I struggle to believe that many people would be able to live without electricity now though. Many different views caught my eye and technical problems became apparent shooting at night vs day:
I decided that this video needed music to provide more of an atmosphere as the ambience didn't come across well on camera. The dramatic look of the cathedral was the main inspiration for the piano piece, and I could easily turn it into something more peaceful and beautiful.
